QUESTION:
Do you know where I can get up to date information on the natural form of
ellagic acid? I have been trying to get information for at least 4 months form
various doctors and companies who are promating it as a cancer preventative and
cancer fighter. The reason I'm asking is that several years ago when research
was being done on the synthetic form it was creating blood clotting problems in
humans, so even though we really want to take the natural form from raspberries
etc, I really want to talk to someone who has up to date information and who has
done reseach on it. I know some things are said to be fine because they are
quote natural but I also know that some natural things aren't good for the body.
I respect herbs and medicine but I need more scientific details.
ANSWER:
Ellagic acid can form the center of more complex molecules classified as
hydrolyzable tannins. It can also exist in small amounts by itself. I don't
think there is enough in raspberries to hurt you, so enjoy! In season, anyway...
As far as it being a cancer preventative, that sounds pretty far-fetched to me.
