BRIEF: Is dumbcane toxic to humans?


QUESTION:
I was of the impression that Dieffenbachia (dumbcane) was toxic not only to pets but humans as well. Is this true?

ANSWER:
Yes. It causes the mouth to swell and results in aweful pain and suffering. Death is extremely rare and would usually only happen if air passages were blocked. few pets chew on it twice...it must really hurt.
