PLEASE NOTE:
"Poisonous" does not mean deadly. Some manifestations of toxicity are subtle. The dose, as always, determines if a plant is safe source of nutrients or a toxic hazard.

BRIEF: Are Cape Murtle and Pampas Grass poisonous to horses?

QUESTION:
To answer a reference question, I am trying to find out if Cape Myrtle shrubs and Pampas Grass (sorry I don't have the genus and species) are hazardous to horses and should thus be removed from paddocks. I have been unable to find anything in the literature and your Web site on plants poisonous to horses does not list them.

ANSWER:

I don't know about the toxicity of Pampas Grass, but it is darned persistent. If it grows where your correspondent lives like it did back home in California, they will never be rid of it anyway. I have chopped it, burned it, drowned it. I suppose some of the newer sprays might work. Might.
