PLEASE NOTE:
"Poisonous" does not mean deadly. Some manifestations of toxicity are subtle. The dose, as always, determines if a plant is safe source of nutrients or a toxic hazard.

BRIEF: How can we figure out which of these plants are native to California?

QUESTION:
My son has just started Boy Scouts and in the interest of finding which plants in California are poisonous to humans, we found your Cornell webpage. It is very informative. We are still curious to know how we can narrow the search down to those poisonous plants listed in your alpha list which are located in California. Is there any way to find this out?

ANSWER:

Since I am from California, most of them are found there! Also, most plants native to other parts of the US and the world can grow there, and on occasion, do, if only in gardens. The excellent paperback "Poisonous Plants of California" 1986 University of California Press is the best book ever written on the subject.
