BRIEF: Is this normal?

QUESTION:
I am new to raising and milking. We have had our goats for about a month. We have been milking and have a book on dairy goats, but can find no mention of the bottom of the teats, about the last three inches, turning dark. Can you tell me if this is an indicator of a problem or is it normal? We have Oberhasli goats. The kids are still with their mothers as well.

ANSWER:

How are you milking them? Do they seem to be in discomfort? Is there any sign of irritation associated with the darkening? Are they exposed to the sun?
